"Benno Geiger" winners announced

  VENICE —Anna Ruchat, a translator of Swiss origin has won the prize for her translation of the work “Ognuno incatenato alla sua ora” by Mariella Mehr (Einaudi), and Valerio Nardoni won the prize for amateur translator with “Il corpo, favoloso” by Pedro Salinas (Passigli). 

 

  Furthermore, there has been special recognition of the Armenian-Venetian Paola Mildonian for her translation of “Canzoniere armeno”. 

 

  Three scholarships have also been awarded, bringing the total of prize money awarded to 11,000 euros. 

 

Anna Ruchat will receive a cash prize of 4,000 euros, whilst a prize of 1,000 euros will be awarded to the amateur translator, Valerio Nardoni. 

 

  The winners were chosen by a jury of experts, chaired by Francesco Zambon.

 

  The award is entitled “Benno Geiger”, who was a twentieth-century writer, poet, critic of Austrian art, and author of German translations of some of the classics of Italian poetry.
