Arrest warrant for senator over nursing home fraud
ROME – Police have issued an arrest warrant for senator Antonio Azzollini on suspicion of being involved in the fraudulent bankruptcy of a series of nursing homes. Two senior nuns from the Ancelle Congregation of Divine Providence are also amongst 10 people to have been detained so far.
According to police sources, the arrests have followed a probe into the 500 million euro bankruptcy of the Divine Providence nursing homes. Up to a total of 25 people are currently being investigated for the fraudulent withdrawal of funds from the homes’ foundation
Senator Azzollini from the New Centre Right Party is also suspected of involvement in the fraudulent bankruptcy and the withdrawal of funds from the nursing home coffers. A request for his senatorial immunity to be lifted has already been heard by Parliament.
