Police nab 60 Camorristi

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, around 60 alleged Camorra members were arrested during a police raid in Forcella, at the heart of Naples.

Members and affiliates of the Giuliano, Sibillo, Brunetti and Amirante families were arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes including, mafia activity, murder and attempted murder, drug trafficking and possession and the carrying of arms.

The raid was co-ordinated by the DDA (the District Anti-Mafia Directory) and the Prosecutor of the Juvenile Court, following a noted and rapid rise in the group's illicit activity. The clan, made up of young members of these four historic criminal families in the Forcella area, allegedly managed to obtain a monopoly on illicit activities in the very centre of Naples.

According to police sources the group are supposed to have controlled various, notable pizzerias and businesses in the area, as well as a complex drug-trafficking network. The aforementioned crimes committed, helped gain supremacy within the territory, and in fending off rival Mafia gangs; it is alleged that the gang often resorted to homicide.
