Finmeccanica wins lucrative US contract

ROME - The Italian aerospace engineering company Finmeccanica has finalised a deal with the US to service their F-35 jets in operation in Europe, it was announced on Thursday.

The announcement came from Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti and the American ambassador to Italy John Philips. Finmeccanica is one of the leading global companies operating in aerospace technology and defence.

Pinotti praised the deal saying that the contract would mean “work, technology and positive effects” for the company and the economy.

Finmeccanica Director General Mauro Moretti meanwhile said that the deal demonstrates his company’s “level of excellence in the aeronautics sector.”

The deal makes Finmeccanica the official service provider for all F-35 jets on the continent, whether they be those owned by the U.S forces and stationed in Europe, or those which have been sold to various European countries, Il Messaggero reported.
