Berlusconi appeals to European Court pending

The European Court of Human Rights, following the recent publication in the Italian media of information concerning the applications lodged by Silvio Berlusconi, has provided, through the Registrar of the Court, interesting clarifications.

Three applications lodged by Mr Berlusconi are currently pending before the Court: a first (no. 58428/13), registered on 7 October 2013 and concerning, among other issues, the applicability of the “Severino Act”; a second (no. 8683/14), registered on 15 April 2014 and concerning a conviction for tax evasion; and a third (no. 23554/14), registered on 10 April 2014 and concerning the civil proceedings for damages in relation to the “Lodo Mondadori” case.

To date, no decision has been made on the admissibility of any of these applications. All three applications have been registered and will be submitted in due course to a judicial formation, which will rule on the admissibility and/or the merits of the applicant’s complaints.

The statement is a document produced by the Registry. It does not bind the Court. Decisions, judgments and further information about the Court can be found here.

The European Court of Human Rights was set up in Strasbourg by the Council of Europe Member States in 1959 to deal with alleged violations of the 1950 European Convention on Human Rights.
