Shakespeare Sonnets of Love and Death

Shakespeare Sonnets of Love and Death

When: 7:00 pm - Friday, 7th June
Where: Acattolica Cemetery (by Piramide in Testaccio)

The Commonwealth Club of Rome presents an evening of poetry and song starring the renowned soprano Shelagh Stuchbery of London’s Royal College of Music, and acclaimed Shakespearean actors Rory Stuart and Michael Fitzpatrick. This highly-talented trio will be offering a one-time only performance in support of Rome’s Acattolica (Non-Catholic) Cemetery, an extraordinary site of pilgrimages also known as the English Cemetery because it contains possibly the highest density of famous and important graves in the world including those of Keats and Shelley.

"It might make one in love with death, to think that one should be buried in so sweet a place," wrote Shelley, not long before he drowned and was buried here.
In the setting of lofty cypresses and amid eighteenth century monuments, you can delight to eternal lines and dulcet melodies with musical accompaniment by Micky Martin as unforgettable performers suit the action to the word, the word to the action, and o'erstep not the modesty of nature.

Admission free of charge.
