ROME – As many as four Italian universities' faculties are rated in the world’s top 10 for their teaching according to QS World University Rankings by Subject published Thursday. 

According to the rankings published in Il Fatto Quotidiano, La Sapienza was ranked first place in the world for classical studies, for the fourth consecutive year. La Sapienza was ranked higher than both Oxford and Cambridge in their classical studies departments with Sapienza also ranking tenth place in Archeology. Normale di Pisa followed closely behind, ranking fifth in classical studies. Normale di Pisa also ranked highly within marketing, receiving seventh place, and in managerial economics, receiving ninth place. Politecnico di Milano was awarded seventh place for their faculty in Architecture and of Art and Design. Bocconi was given sixteenth place in Economics and Econometrics and seventeenth in accounting and finance. 

Within the universities in Europe, only Netherlands surpassed Italy’s high rankings with 13 subjects within the top ten. Within the Netherlands, University of Wageningen was acknowledged for its impressive faculty in Agriculture and forestry and the University of Amsterdam for its subjects of Communication and Media Studies. France and Germany received only five subjects out of the top 10 ranking. Switzerland also received high rankings for three of their universities: the ETH, the Zurich Polytechnic, and Ehl Hotel School in Lausanne. 

QS highly awarded Universities in the United States within 32 subjects. Harvard University was ranked the highest among the US schools with an astounding 19 subjects receiving first place. The US faced a drop in last year’s ranking by 24 percent, according to Il Fatto Quotidiano. This year, the US regained its high ranking with Harvard University and followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with 11 subjects placed.  The United Kingdom followed close behind by receiving second place with 16 subjects being well ranked.
