Assovini Sicilia highlights quality and dynamism in Sicilian wines at Vinitaly 2024

This year Verona hosts the Vinitaly exhibition from 14 to 17 April

PALERMO — Assovini Sicilia will take part in the 56th Vinitaly edition, highlighting a commitment towards high-quality production, deep roots in the territory, and supporting the evolution of the consumer market.

From 14th to 17th April, 47 associated wine producers will represent the diversity and uniqueness of the Sicilian wine heritage through the Assovini Sicilia booth and presence at Vinitaly.

In addition to wine quality and variety, Assovini Sicilia will emphasize the importance of the role of young people in the future of Sicilian oenology with the talk "Next Generation: dialogue, growth, territory", dedicated to the new group of young people under 40 already actively involved in the wine companies of Assovini Sicilia.

From Etna to the far west, and including the smaller islands, the Assovini Sicilia is testimony to the inclusion of all the production areas of wines with denomination of origin and geographical indication, boasting 23 DOC and one DOCG designations.

“In a complex political-economic context like the current one, with changes in consumption, Sicily stands out for its reactivity, dynamism and ability to adapt, thanks to the great expertise of our producers, by the variety of offerings, as well as the inestimable cultural value of Sicilian wine. Continuous research, experimentation and innovation in the vineyards, and natural resistance of native Sicilian vines are strategic to Assovini Sicilia’s member companies to face the challenges of climate change,” said Mariangela Cambria, president of Assovini Sicilia.

The wine production that will be presented at Vinitaly confirms the ability of Sicilian producers to know how to interpret the territory and its vocation, to be in line with new consumption models and to increasingly focus on wines with a contemporary style: fresh reds, less tannic but deeply identifying; whites characterized by a new aromatic complexity, the result of both native and international varietals with an intriguing profile.

The growing production of sparkling wines and rosés is an expression of Sicilian heterogeneity, centered on the wine-territory.

In addition to the domestic market, the association has always considered the foreign market as strategic, investing in internationalization not only for business opportunities but also to promote wine as a cultural ambassador.

Today, each wine producers in Assovini exports its wines, with Europe and North America as the main markets, highlighting the importance of exports to over 35 countries, including USA, Germany, Canada, UK, France, Switzerland, Japan, the Netherlands, China and Australia.

With the event scheduled at Vinitaly on Monday April 15th, "Next Generation: dialogue, growth, territory,” Assovini Sicilia confirms itself as an innovative laboratory that looks to the future by enhancing the new generations. The talk will be a unique opportunity to explore the themes of training, valorization of the territory and effective communication towards Generation Z, with the aim of creating new paths for the sustainable development of the sector.

Among the guests, the wine communicator Veronica Laguardia will open the debate on training; Andrea Amadei, from Decanter Rai Radio 2 and È Sempre Mezzogiorno on Rai1, will delve into the valorization of the Sicilian territory; while Alojz Felix Jermann, wine communication expert, will focus on the importance of communication to actively involve the new generation of consumers and producers.

“Next Generation,” explained Mariangela Cambria, “symbolizes not only the future of the association, but also the adjustment to market changes, with a focus on the consumption of the new generations - Their contribution is, in fact, essential to innovative communication strategies, oriented also to the responsible consumption of wine.”
