ROME – Matteo Berrettini, an Italian tennis player, won his first ATP title in two years after beating Carballes Baena in Marrakech.

Berrettini beat Baena in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, marking the Italian’s return to winning ways after numerous injuries which halted his performance. He had not won a tournament since Queen’s Club Championships in London in 2022.

The win in Marrakech was Berrettini’s eight career tournament win. The victory saw the former world number six rise from 135 to 84 in the world rankings. This means there are now nine male Italian players in the ATP top 100 rankings.

Berrettini’s next test comes in the form of an opening match against Miomir Kecmanovic in the Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo.
