Centre-right victory in Abruzzo regional elections

ROME – Marco Marsilio, of Fratelli D’Italia, won the regional elections in Abruzzo after receiving 53.5 percent of the vote.

The centre-right’s victory in Abruzzo comes after a string of regional victories was disrupted by the centre-left’s victory in Sardinia. The centre-left candidate, Luciano D’Amico, for Abruzzo received 46.5 percent of the vote.

Marsilio has become the first regional president of Abruzzo to be elected for a second term.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated Marsilio on X, formerly Twitter, saying “it is a source of great pride for [Fratelli D’Italia] that the citizens of Abruzzo wanted to continue to place their trust in him.”

Speaking after his victory, Marsilio said that both D'Amico and Giuseppe Conte had congratulated him, and said he hoped D'Amico would be a good opposition. He described the victory as a "total derby overwhelmingly won by the centre-right."
