Mud covers Basilica di San Marco for climate change

Climate Protestor in front of Venice Basilica di San Marco

ROME - Group of young climate change activists, “The Last Generation,” roused attention while protesting in front of Saint Mark's Basilica on Thursday in Venice. The group threw paint mixed with mud and sprayed “Nesquik '' on the facade of the Basilica. Police eventually intervened and removed the protestors.

The Last Generation Group, who often partake in such demonstrations and, at times, vandalism, protested in Venice with the central message, “reparation fund,” as painted on the protestors’ banners. The protestors also held up pictures of the 12 members of their group that were held in jail for 3 days following an earlier protest of a roadblock at Fiumicino in Rome.

One of the members of the group present at Saint Mark’s basilica shouted, “I have no future, I have to do these things because I am afraid. They want us to go to work and to study, but we have no future. We are angry, we can’t take it anymore, we just want justice.” A young girl and mother showed their solidarity with the Last Generation’s message by holding the banner up with them, before law enforcement came to the scene and ended the protest.
