Confindustria boss aims to head Luiss university without degree

Bonomi

ROME -- The head of Italy's Confindustria industrialists' association, Carlo Bonomi, is determined to become president of the board of directors of the prestigious Luiss University in the Eternal City despite revelations recently by il Fatto Quotidiano newspaper that he claimed falsely to have a university degree, Il Fatto reports Wednesday.

Despite the disclosure Bonomi does not want to give up the chance of holding the post at the Luiss that most previous Confindustria leaders occupied. The Luiss,a private university charging hefty fees,  was founded under the auspices of Confindustria and relies on sponsorship from Confindustria connections as well as networking links for its graduates.

Bonomi is applying pressure to the minister for universities and research, Anna Maria Bernini, to bend the rules in the Luiss statutes to allow for an interpretation under which the Confindustria can get the post without having been to university himself.
"Carlo Bonomi is not a graduate," the website AffariItaliana.it said, quoting Il Fatto. "The president of Confindustria lied about his level of study and has been discovered. Two official documents disprove him."
