Death of two youngsters, due to a railways track crossing

BERBENNO - Two young boys, aged 15 and 17, have died while trespassing Berbero’s station railways; initial suggestions suppose the motivation for such an act might be due to a game among friends.

Last Sunday late afternoon around 18, a group of friends between the age of 13 and 17, after a day spent at a nearby amusement park, witnessed the unexpected loss of their friends, Manuel Gabriel Tegada Reyes and Ajeti Meritan, respectively from South America and Kosovo, but who had lived for long in Sondrio, just a few kilometers from were the tragedy took place.

The two boys were swept away for over 150 m. at a velocity between 80 and 100 km/h by a train to Milan, as they were traversing the railway track instead of taking the underground passage like their friends.

A third boy who was with them on the railways narrowly escaped the tragedy.

The reasons for such an irresponsible act, the police suggest, might be due to a ticking-time game, which ultimately resulted in a fatality.
