MERIBEL-COURCHEVEL, France -- The Italian alpine ski champion, Marta Bassino, has achieved the highest spot on the podium in the Super-G crown. She concluded the competition in 1:28:17, 0,11 seconds before the American Mikaela Shiffrin did awarding the second spot, and 0.33 seconds behind the Austrian Cornelia Hutter who arrived third. Eighth placed was Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia arrived 11th.

For Bassino, who was turning 27 in a couple of days, this was the second gold won in a world competition, she conquered her first one in parallel to Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2021.

"I felt like I learned from the combined that I have to be much more aggressive with my skiing and with my tactics but this hill is difficult and it deserves respect for the terrain," Shiffrin told Eurosport.

Goggia complimented herself with Bassino, saying she is leading the Italian team in the right direction, and that by not being successful, Goggia is more determined to start studying again.

It is the second gold for Italy in the world championships in France. The first was achieved in 2009 by Brignone in combination with Garmish-Partenkirchen.
