BARI – Over 900 kilograms of marijuana have been sized from a production centre located in a former barn, the Ruvo di Puglia state police have confirmed.

Two people were arrested on charges on intention to distribute drugs in large quantities and were in the process of weighing and packaging the drugs at the time of their arrest.

The operation took place in the Ruvo di Puglia countryside on the border with Bitono, where a stone wall concealed by dense vegetation was identified leading to the discovery of the abandoned stable.

In total the haul has an estimated street value of one million euros.

Other equipment was also seized included vacuum bags, scales, cash registers and electric generators.

In the barn the police also discovered a bed that allowed the traffickers to sleep on site.

The two people have been taken into custody and will face a judicial trial.

The arrests come in a week where law enforcement have carried out a series of operations and raids in the Murgia area aimed at stopping the supply of illegal drugs.
