Colosseum illuminated with Ukraine flag

ROME – On Thursday evening the Colosseum was illuminated with the colours of the Ukrainian flag, while the mayor of the Eternal City, Roberto Gualtieri, has scheduled a torchlight procession for peace in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, for Friday evening, he announced.

The symbolic march will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday in Piazza del Campidoglio and end up at the Colosseum.

"We condemn the attack on Ukraine. I invite the Romans to participate in tomorrow's torchlight procession for peace. Let us make our presence felt in support of the Ukrainian people against an absurd and dangerous war for the future of Europe,” said Mayor Gualtieri.

Other European cities have also illuminated monuments with the Ukrainian flag to show solidarity, namely the Brandeburg Gate in Berlin and the City Hall in Paris.
