ROME – The Community of Sant’Egidio will hold a prayer vigil for peace in Ukraine Thursday evening at 8 p.m. in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, a western zone of the Italian capital. The event will be live-streamed to all countries of the world where the charity is active.

 "It is our first response to the tragedy that is unfolding in Ukraine at the moment,” said a Sant’Egidio spokesperson. “We cannot resign ourselves to war as a last word.”

 “We must ceaselessly ask for peace. This is what we implore for the good of Ukraine and the whole world, addressing everyone, starting with those who have responsibility for the nations.”

 “We invite everyone to join us to stop the madness of the use of arms.”
