Laika street art finds humour in Mattarella re-election

"STOP! COME BACK HERE!" says the speech bubble in Laika's latest artwork

ROME – A picture by street artist Laika popped up overnight in Via della Cordonata, showing the recently re-elected President Sergio Mattarella chasing after his moving van and shouting for it to turn back.

"It’s been days…let’s forget it,” commented the artist on her Instagram page with regards to Italy’s chaotic presidential elections.

“Better to focus on the one thing about this that made me smile," she said. The 80-year-old Mattarella had already moved out of his presidential residence when he was left little choice but to transport everything back again.

“COME BACK!” Laika jokingly imagines him saying in her post, followed by a hashtag pointed at the country's politicans, saying “now take care of the country (#oraoccupatevidelpaese).”

The artwork is made of acrylic on canvas and appeared some time on Saturday night, just a stone’s throw away from the Quirinal Palace.
