ROME - - The record for the highest temperatures recorded in Rome has been broken this afternoon on July 18 by new highs of 41.7 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists had predicted it: today, Rome has reached a new record for the highest temperature recorded, surpassing the 40.7 degrees Celsius recorded by the Roma Urbe station in June 2022.

At 3 p.m. on July 18, the record had already been shattered at various stations in the city.

Currently, the peak temperature is that recorded by the station at Forte Prenestino, on the eastern outskirts of the capital, at 41.7 degrees Celsius.

But other extreme temperatures also recorded include 40.8 degrees Celsius at the National Research Council Headquarters, near Termini; and 41.1 degrees Celsius at Piazza Saturnino.

The upwards curve, however, is expected to rise further until 5 p.m., when it will become clear what the new record will be.
