ROME -- A row has erupted in the centre-left Democratic Party, PD, over the inclusion of candidate Elly Schlein’s name on the logo. Schlein, the head of the party, will be standing as a candidate in June’s European elections. 

  The idea to include Schlein’s name was originally proposed by the president of the Democratic party, Stefano Bonaccini, leading to rifts among the democratic leaders. During an Instagram Live, she confirmed that her name would not be appearing on the party’s logo. 

  ROME – The family of an English soldier who was saved during the Second World War has returned to Ascoli 80 years later. Between the autumn of 1943 and the summer of 1944, three families bravely came together to hide Dennis Hutton Fox who had escaped from a prison camp in Macerata. Serving the Coldstream Guards, Hutton Fox had been taken prisoner by German-Italian troops in Libya. 

 ROME - Anti-fascist writer Antonio Scurati had his speech cancelled on RAI 3 television channel as part of the commemorations of Italy's liberation from Nazi Germany on April 25, 1945. This incident has brought him greater visibility, even prompting a reaction from Italian Prime Minsiter Giorgia Meloni.

 Antonio Scurati is the author of a series of novels about Benito Mussolini, translated worldwide. In November 2023, he also published a work on the continuity between historical fascism and contemporary populism ("Fascismo e populismo," Bompiani).

  ROME -- A Spanish sailor was saved by the Italian Coast Guard in an elaborate rescue mission that extended into the early hours of dawn. The sailor began his solo mission on the Greek Island of Crete, on April 11 intending to reach Sicily. However, as days passed without any information from the 12-metre sailing boat, concerns mounted.

  A satellite signal acquired by the Piraeus Rescue Centre in Greece indicated the possible presence of the unit 110 miles (about 200 kilometres) from Capo Spartivento, on the Calabrian coast.
