Knox wins appeal against Kercher murder conviction

PERUGIA – An Italian appeal court today cleared American student Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaelle Sollecito of murdering British student Meredith Kercher in 2007 and ordered the immediate release of the two after four years imprisonment. Bystanders outside the Perugia courthouse shouted “vergogna, vergogna,” (shame, shame), as the sentence was read but cheers rose from among American television network’s crews. A statement by the Kercher family said they respected the verdict but were baffled how the original conviction and sentence of 26 years in prison for Knox had been overturned.
