Success for Moceri and Bonetti in the Dolomites Gold Cup
CORTINA D’AMPEZZO -- The Dolomites Gold Cup 2016, which took place from July 21 – 24, has come to a close. The winning team was made up of Giovanni Moceri and Daniele Bonetti who raced in the 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta, followed by Luca Patron and Massimo Raimondi who drove the 1933 Mg Supercharger and Leonardo Fabbri and Vincenzo Bertieri in the 1961 Volvo Amazon. It was two intense days of racing along the roads of the Dolomites, which saw competitive fighting for pole position along the way.
“I am particularly happy with the result seeing as I was driving an Italian car, the 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta, unlike the last two cars I drove previous Dolomites Gold Cups which were a Porsche Speedster first of all and a BMW 328 after that,” said Moceri.
“The victory is especially important to me seeing as I was racing in a car which I don’t usually drive, as my usual car broke down during a recent event. This weekend has been fantastic! We led the race from almost the beginning onwards, and the organisation was perfect. I want to thank my team Loro Piana Classic and of course my navigator Daniele Bonetti, with whom there is an excellent chemistry.”
This victory comes only a few months after Moceri and Bonetti’s triumph in the 1939 Fiat 508 C at the hundredth edition of the Targo Florio endurance automobile race at Palermo.
President of the Organising Committee and spokesman for the cup, Alessandro Casali, reflects on this year’s competition: “A Gold Cup more international and exciting than ever… the real success is the satisfaction of our participants.”
