MILAN — A sudden drop in temperature has led to the first onset of snow on the Alps in Alto Adige, at an altitude of 1600m. The first snowflakes have also fallen on the Brenner Pass, which goes between Italy and Austria. In the valleys, the bad weather has materialised in the form of heavy rain with gusts of icy wind.

In Milan, the strong storm has created many problems, particularly on the subway. The Green Line has been suspended due to a large branch that has fallen on the tracks. Firefighters have had to intervene to deal with flooding and fallen trees in the city centre, and the City Council is monitoring the Lambro and Seveso rivers closely.

The weather is also causing problems for the mainline trains, particularly between Viareggio and Lucca, which is on the Florence line.

According to the meteorologist at 3bmeteo.com Edward Ferrera, the temperature will continue to drop, and the Alps will continue to have intermittent snow.
