Sicilian Chamber of Commerce tries to build on impact of Expo Milan

SICILY — Following the successful Expo 2015 in Milan, the Sicilian Chamber of Commerce is now aiming itself at foreign markets, trying to promote the local area, particularly in the sectors of tourism and agri-food.
This is the start of an internationalisation plan, which will consist of six events and many business-to-business transactions involving over eighty foreign buyers, who will be travelling to Sicily in late September and October.
Traders will be coming from all across Europe and the United States.
Specifically, two events are aimed at tour operators, three to agriculture, and another to agri-food, with a more technical and academic approach, touching on the theme of food safety.
The first event will be held in Siracusa and Ragusa from Sunday until Wednesday, and will address 16 tour operators from Belgium, Holland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
This initiative is part of the “Your Gate to Sicilian Excellence” project, promoted by the Sicilian Chamber of Commerce.
“For us, the Expo in Milan is not over, but rather is continuing here in Sicily” said the President of the Sicilian Chamber of Commerce, Antonello Montante. He adds, “We will showcase two weeks of Sicilian excellence on the runway at Cardo, just a short distance away from the Tree of Life and Palazzo Italia. Now, instead, we are bringing foreign buyers here to Sicily to see with their own eyes the artistic nature on offer here. They are in this region, which also offers the possibility for them to taste on site typical and local products. The objective of this initiative is in fact to promote the Sicilian businesses in foreign markets.”
