Erasmus student raped in Milan

MILAN – One of the two men who attacked and raped 23 year-old Polish Erasmus on Tuesday, has been arrested, whilst police still search for the second offender who has allegedly fled to Romania.

The two homeless Romanian men were identified in Viale della Liberazione, where they spent their nights under the walkaways of buildings and metros.

The young Polish student was in Milan as part of an Erasmus project. She told police she went out for dinner with a group of other exchange students to a restaurant in Via Tito Speri. Around 3am, she decided to go home and after saying goodbye to her friends was approached by two strangers on her way to her apartment in Piazza Firenze all by herself.

The two men allegedly hit her over the head before dragging her into a nearby garden to rape her. They then fled with her purse and mobile phone.

Police were able to trace the alleged attackers through DNA on the girl as well as CCTV images.
