Sant'Egido Community makes appeal for Aleppo
ROME-Sant’Egido Community head Andrea Riccardi has made an impassioned appeal for the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo, saying that the Christian population there face extinction.
It has been two years since the battle started in Aleppo, Syria’s most populated city, which has caused the loss of hundreds of lives.
Despite the conflict, its two million inhabitants have remained and are fighting for their lives, as Aleppo, the third “Christian” city in the Arab world after Cairo and Beirut, has become the target of brutal missile attacks. In addition to the violence to which the inhabitants are subject, they suffer from hunger and lack of medicine.
The city of Aleppo-which is split into the districts that are in loyalist hands and those controlled by the rebels-is surrounded by the government, making any attempt to leave the restricted area impossible.
Andrea Riccardi urges people to help stop a massacre that has lasted over two years and calls for an international intervention to liberate Aleppo from the siege.
Head of the Sant’Egido community further claims that “we must impose peace in the name of those who suffe.”
Many other MPs are joining the call for peace, including Lorenzo Dellai, Lucio Romano, Walter Verini, Gianpiero Dalla Zuanna; Gianluigi Gigli, Gianpiero D'Alia, Milena Santerini, Gaetano Piepoli, Gregorio Gitti, Mario Marazziti, Salvatore Matarrese, Fauttilli Federico, Alessio Tacconi, Edoardo Patriarca, Mario Mauro, Gea Schiro, Fuchsia Nissoli, Gaetano Piepoli, Claudio Micheloni.
