Italian economy minister foresees ‘innovative measures’ for EU

ROME-Italy is ready to introduce “innovative measures” in the European economy to boost employment when it takes over the EU presidency in July, Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan said Wednesday.

"Europe is at a crossroads between a sputtering growth and a different speed of recovery," Mr Padoan said. "The difference is in the hands of European policymakers and in particular of the Italian government."
The Italian economy minister also said he is "convinced" that Italy's EU presidency "will know how to create a turning point" in the European economy.
Following the spectacular victory of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi’s Democratic Party in EU elections last Sunday, Mr Padoan said he “received many congratulations (from European partners) and much openness to Italy's proposals to make growth and employment central through innovative measures and with a reconsideration of the general picture."
