Italian Kimi Antonelli wins in Monaco to extend winning streak

 ROME – Italian Kimi Antonelli, 19, won his first Monaco Grand Prix to claim his fifth successive GP win in F1, becoming the youngest person to do so.

 Antonelli, from Bologna, soared to victory in the iconic Monaco Grand Prix, converting his pole position to a win. As well as becoming the youngest person to ever win in Monaco, he became the first ever teenager to complete a race grand slam – that is to claim pole, have the fastest lap, lead every lap and win. He also extended his winning streak, marking his fifth consecutive win this season

 He is currently racing his second season in Formula 1 for British based team Mercedes-AMG Petronas, replacing seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton spot in the team. Hamilton, who now races for Italian team Ferrari, came second at Monaco, mirroring their 1-2 at the previous race in Canada.

 In the post-race cool down room, Hamilton jokingly told Antonelli, “That’s too many wins now, buddy.”

 Antonelli is currently on track to become the youngest F1 champion, leading the drivers’ championship by 66 points with 156 points, miles ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton in second on 90 points.

 If Antonelli wins the F1 drivers’ championship this year, he would be the first Italian to do so since 1953.
