New Trevi Fountain access methods prove effective

ROME--A new assessment has shown the effectiveness of the new measures put in place to regulate attendance and improve the experience of those visiting one of Rome’s most iconic tourist attractions, the Trevi Fountain.
The fountain, which used to be free, now costs 2 euros to visit per person. Visits to the fountain have been recorded since Feb. 2, of which there have been 229,896. Of these visits 217,597 were full price, 3,499 were residents of Rome and 8,800 were free admissions. In total garnering 435,194 euros. All of the proceeds will be put towards the Civic Museums of Rome for maintenance, protecting their heritage and supporting free admission for Rome residents.
Mayor Roberto Gualtieri commented on the success of the measures "These numbers demonstrate that it is possible to combine the protection of an extraordinary monument with its full accessibility. Finally, Romans can return to visit it without overcrowding, and thanks to the funds raised, they will also be able to enjoy free admission to Rome's Civic Museums. We are proud to have introduced a system that reinvests every resource in the care of our heritage and permanently strengthens access to culture."
