Fire destroys Teatro Sannazaro dome in Naples

NAPLES-- A huge fire erupted Tuesday in Naples on Via Chiaia destroying the historic Teatro Sannazaro dome, according to local fire officials. 

Several people have been taken to the hospital due to smoke intoxication but no one has been reported seriously injured. The fire has damaged surrounding buildings and residents have been evacuated. 

Most of the fire has been extinguished but there are still some small spots burning.The fire broke out around 6 a.m. this morning.

 The Teatro Sannazaro was inaugurated in 1847. 

Officials believe that the flames were triggered by a short circuit at a nearby apartment complex which then spread to the theatre, however the cause has not been confirmed.
