Conclave on Tuesday March 12

VATICAN CITY -- The conclave to elect the next pope will begin Tuesday March 12, the Vatican said. The 115 members of the College of Cardinals eligible to vote will attend a special mass in St Peter's Basilica before retiring to the Sistine Chapel to begin choosing a successor to Benedict XVI who resigned last month. A majority made up of at least 77 cardinals is needed to elect a new head of the Roman Catholic Church.
