Ciampino awarded Skytax 4-Star Rating

CIAMPINO-One of Europe’s oldest airport has been awarded the prestigious Skytax award for the first time in its 110-year history. The Giovan Battist Pastine Ciampino Airport (CIA) is managed and developed by Aeroporti di Roma, a Mundys Group Company.
Skytrax is the number one global air transport rating organization that compares airports by using 800 parameters related to products and services provided to passengers. These measurements allow comparisons between large hubs and regional airports. Some of the parameters that Ciampino had high ratings on include terminal comfort, cleanliness, signage, and wayfinding.
The high quality of the service provided by the staff, security procedures and border immigration controls were also highlighted. Skytrax valued the availability of charging points, work areas, family services, and assistance for passengers with limited mobility. The agency highlighted the programs that make waiting more pleasant, including table football, musical instruments, and children’s play areas.
Marco Troncone, CEO of ADR, said the award “represents a further important milestone in the continuous journey we are all pursuing across the entire Roman airport system. G.B. Pastine plays a strategic role for Rome and for Italy and has established itself among the most highly regarded airports in Europe in its category for quality and operational reliability.”
Over the last few years, ADR has been working on a development plan for Ciampino Airport focused on improving its infrastructure in a sustainable and innovative manner. Last year, the airport surpassed four million passengers arriving or departing.
Air travel through Rome has reached a high level over the last several years. In 2022 and 2025, Rome Fiumicino Airport, also managed by ADR, was awarded the Skytrax 5-Star Rating. The Leonardo da Vinci airport near the satellite port town of Fiumicino (FCO) is the eighth busiest airport in Europe and the 39th busiest airport in the world, handling 51 million passengers in 2025. This reporter accounted for 26 of those visits.
Opening in 1916, Ciampino Airport is the eighth oldest in the world still in operation. In April of 1926, Umberto Nobile became the first person to fly over the North Pole from Europe to America after taking off from Ciampino. In 1930, the first helicopter, designed by Corradino D’Ascanio, was tested at the airport reaching a height of 18 M for almost nine minutes.
Ciampino served as Rome’s main airport until 1960 when Leonardo da Vinci Airport opened. Today, it serves as a joint civilian, commercial and military airport.
