Juventus under investigation for breaching financial fair play regulations

ROME – Juventus is under investigation by UEFA for allegedly violating financial fair play regulations, Juventus confirmed on Thursday.

The Turin team, in a statement on social media, confirmed that they had been notified Sept. 18 by UEFA that they were being placed under investigation for allegedly breaching the financial fair play rules introduced in 2011. The rules were introduced to ensure football clubs operate within their means and stay financially stable and sustainable – essentially preventing clubs spending more than they earn over a period of several years.

The apparent breach was present in the balance sheet for the 2024/25 season, ending on June 30, which indicates Juventus potentially violated the Football Earning Rule parameter. This rule limits clubs to 60 million euros in losses over a three-year period, to ensure financial stability, a limit which Juventus allegedly exceeded in the 2022-25 seasons.

Juventus previously had been fined 10 million euros by UEFA for breaching financial fair play rules in 2023 and were excluded from the UEFA Conference League that season due to financial irregularities.

The outcome of the investigation is expected to be announced in spring 2026, with possible financial sanctions or limits of the number of new players able to be signed.
