Scotsmen shine as Napoli jump to top of the table

ROME - Antonio Conte's Scots show up when called upon as they helped the Azzurri to maintain their perfect start to this years Serie A, and in doing so leapfrog their competitors to the top of the table, although Pisa didn't make it easy for them.
Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour took centre stage on Monday evening as Napoli defeated Pisa 3-2 at home in what ended up being a closer affair than many fans would have expected, and indeed wanted, despite Pisa sitting 19th in the table, and Napoli now 1st after Juventus' slip-up over the weekend.
Former Brighton midfielder Gilmour opened the scoring shortly before half-time with a skillful, if slightly deflected, strike from just inside the area after great work from the ever-probing Spinazzola down the left. His first senior goal for Napoli since his move from the Premier League, giving his side a 1-0 lead going into half time.
It didn't last long however, as Pisa came out after the break with a point to prove, and equalised around the hour mark. Napoli then took control of the game, scoring through Spinazzola, who hit one from outside the area, finding the bottom corner despite the best efforts of the goalkeeper, who could only get fingertips to it.
McTominay then got in on the act, with a delightful first time flick around the corner to Lorenzo Lucca, who held of a challenge before firing a shot into the near post on a tight angle to make it 3-1 with around ten minutes left to play.
Pisa made it a nervy finish for Antonio Conte and those in the stadium, however, as Brazlian Lorran scored in the 90th minute to make it closer than Napoli would have wanted, despite controlling almost two thirds of possession during the match.
The win leaves Napoli at the top of the table, however they will face a testing opponent next time out, as they travel away to the San Siro to face an AC Milan side that has begun to string together a few excellent performances. Conte will need his Scottish talismen on top form if they are to come away with all three points yet again.
