Birthday turns nightmare-ish as customers fall violently ill within minutes of eating

NAPLES – Ten customers at a restaurant in Pozzuoli ended up in hospital, reports Il Messaggero, with one still under observation but not in a life-threatening condition, due to food poisoning that occurred after lunch. The customers began experiencing the first symptoms while still at the table: vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea and sweating. Truly a nightmare birthday.
It happened Sunday afternoon at the restaurant “Da Emilio” in Via Trepiccioni.
Suddenly, while seated at the table, the diners began to feel ill. One of them even suffered a temporary loss of consciousness. Three ambulances were called to the scene. Four adults were transferred to the Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital in Pozzuoli, while five other people refused transfer to the San Giuliano hospital in Giugliano after receiving initial treatment: among them were two girls aged 14 and 16. According to initial reports, the poisoning may have been caused by the consumption of raw seafood.
The local Carabinieri intervened at the restaurant and subsequently requested the intervention of the NAS (food safety unit) and the ASL (local health authority): the owner was reported for serious health and hygiene violations and the premises were seized. This morning, investigations will continue with food samples being taken for analysis to determine what caused the food poisoning.
