Authorities involved as Minister of Defence's X account hacked

Crosetto has stated he will ask for the account to be blocked

ROME - The personal X (formerly Twitter) account of the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, was hacked, with at least two “suspicious” posts appeared on his profile on Thursday evening, reports Il Fatto Quotidiano.

These posts, playing on emotionally charged topics like the recent death of Giorgio Armani and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, were asking for cryptocurrency donations.

The confirmation of the breach came directly from the Ministry of Defence, which published a post to alert users saying, “Official communication: the personal account of Minister Guido Crosetto on X has been the target of a cyberattack. The content published from that account is not attributable to the Minister nor to the Ministry of Defence.” The statement concluded by assuring that they are “working with the relevant authorities to fully restore security.”

Shortly before the official communication, the minister himself had shared an initial, alarmed report of the incident in a post that was later deleted. “Yesterday, my X account was hacked,” Crosetto had written.

He also added a disturbing detail about the nature of the attack: “It was as if they could manage it at the same time as me,” suggesting a sophisticated breach that didn’t immediately lock him out of the profile. “I will ask to have it blocked,” he concluded.
