Temperatures set to rise across most of Italy over the weekend

 ROME - Bad weather is set to dominate the scene in Italy over the coming days. The weather system currently moving across the country will begin to give way on Wednesday to a gradual strengthening of high pressure from the West, also aided by a new Atlantic trough deepening over Western Europe.

 As explained by 3B Meteo, Thursday will see mostly good weather across much of the Italian peninsula, although some isolated showers will still be possible between central-southern Puglia and the Sila region. By the evening, a new front will approach the western Alps, bringing showers or thunderstorms to the border areas.

 Friday: the front will move eastward, bringing bad weather mainly to areas beyond the Alps, while local phenomena may affect the Alps, the Alpine foothills, and, more sporadically, the northern Apennines. It will be sunnier across the rest of Italy, with some afternoon cloud build-up along the Apennine ridge, but little or no precipitation.

 Saturday is expected to remain mostly sunny, apart from isolated afternoon/evening showers over the western Alps and northern Apennines, possibly extending locally into adjacent plains (this development is still to be confirmed).

 On Sunday, summer will continue to prevail in the central and southern regions, while in the North a new Atlantic weather front is expected to approach, bringing increasing cloud cover from the West and new showers or thunderstorms over the central-western Alps and possibly also the Dolomites, Liguria, western Po Valley, and northwestern Tuscany.
It is worth noting that forecast models currently do not fully agree on how the situation will evolve.

 Temperatures:

• A slight rise in temperatures is expected, especially in central and southern Italy.
• Over the weekend, peaks of 35–36°C are expected in Sardinia, and 32–34°C in areas like Catania, Metapontino, and the Tavoliere.
• In the rest of central-southern Italy, highs will range between 26 and 31°C.
• In the North, the rise will be more modest, with highs between 24 and 27°C in the northwest, and up to 28–30°C in the eastern Po Valley.

 As the weather system progressively shifts toward the Balkans between Wednesday and Thursday, weather conditions are expected to improve across most of Italy.

 The latest weather model simulations indeed show a rise in geopotential heights – a signal indicating the return of the Azores high-pressure system, extending over the central Mediterranean.

 This change will bring more stable days, clear or partly cloudy skies, and a gradual increase in maximum temperatures, especially in central and southern regions. The sun will return to dominate the skies over Rome, Florence, Naples, Bari, and Palermo, with temperatures likely rising quickly back above 28–30°C.

 In the North, the improvement will be more gradual, with lingering clouds and some residual rain in the plains on Wednesday morning, but the trend clearly points toward a calmer and milder weather phase.
