Famous Moldovan shoemaker in Trento perishes in a fire in his shop

TRENTO – A fire that broke out around midnight on Tuesday in a shop in Trento killed Serghei Oprea, a shoemaker of Moldovan origin who was very famous in the city. The body was found charred in the lab by the firefighters, who took several hours to put out the flames. Only around 6.30am, almost seven hours after the fire broke out, were the firefighters able to secure the area.

The cause of the fire remains to be unclear, with technical investigations hopefully providing answers. The fire destroyed the store and forced the evacuation of two apartments in the same building, which will now be checked for usability. The situation was made worse by the glues and solvents used by man at work and present in the laboratory, as well as in the shoes and bags, which fuelled the flames and made fire brigade operations difficult.
