Sophia Loren misses son's wedding for 'personal reasons'

ROME - The ceremony took place in Georgia in two symbolic locations: the Samtavro Monastery in historic Mtskheta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Chateau Mukhrani writes Il Fatto Quotidiano.
Sophia Loren's eldest son, Carlo Ponti Jr., married Georgian fitness coach Mariam Sharmanashvili in a ceremony in Georgia in two symbolic locations: the religious ceremony at the Samtavro Monastery in historic Mtskheta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the civil ceremony at Chateau Mukhrani. The couple were united in an Orthodox ceremony and were ‘crowned’ as “sovereigns” of their new family.
The newlyweds then welcomed friends and guests to the reception with dancing and singing. The Georgian national dance was performed by the Sukhishvilebi National Ballet, followed by music from the Mgzavrebi group and the Georgia duo.
In attendance were his brother Eduardo, and Alessandra Mussolini with her husband Mauro Floriani. However, many noticed the absence of the great Italian actress.
Loren (who will turn 91 in September) sent a very affectionate video message, which was shown in the hall during the reception. The star's words were met with applause and emotion. Her absence was due to “personal reasons”, but as reported by the weekly magazine Chi, Loren will welcome the newlyweds with open arms to her home in Geneva to celebrate together with a more intimate and family-oriented celebration.
