Giorgio Armani, 90, will not attend Milan Fashion Week

Giorgio Armani, 90, head of the high fashion brand Armani

ROME - Giorgio Armani, 90, has announced that he will not be present at the end of his fashion shows or to greet the public at Milan Fashion Week this year, due to a recent hospitalisation in the financial capital this year.

The press release from the Armani group stated that Leo Dell’Orco, a well-known collaborator of Armani and creative head of the menswear collections, was set to represent him on the catwalk at the end of the shows. It continued saying that "Sr. Armani is at home and is fine” but must focus his efforts on recovering right now rather than on MFW.

They were careful to stress that “Armani has worked with the usual dedication to the collections that will be presented. While not being able to be physically present, every phase of the organization will follow carefully.”

This comes after the first time in his 50 year-strong-career, in which he firmly placed Made in Italy clothing on the map, that Armani declared that he would being to step back in January 2024.

In 2009 Armani had suffered from hepatitis but it never stopped him from working. It would appear that this year the fashion giant has been able to attend events more infrequently and thus, this announcement has not come as a surprise to those who work within the community.
