British secret service divers 'may have opened Lynch yacht safe' Italian media claim

Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah, who both died on the Bayesian

ROME - What happened to Tech Billionaire Mike Lynch along with his friends and family on Aug. 19 of last year still remains a mystery, which may yet have some light shed on it due to the recent recovery of the vessel.

While investigators are focused on the cause of the disaster, the storm that dragged the ship under, there remain innumerable mysteries that are impossible to verify and as the boat lay in the bottom of Sicilian waters for a year it may be even hard yet. The "British Bill Gates", as he was known, was one of the most famous English entrepreneurs in the tech world. He had been celebrating a major lawsuit victory on the super yacht until the tragedy in the sea of Porticello, a seaside village on the outskirts of Palermo.

It has been suggested therefore by Italian media outlets that in the superyacht's safe there could have been sensitive data that would be of interest to foreign governments such as those of Russia and China. Lynch was the founder of the cybersecurity company Darktrace, which collaborated with the intelligence services of several Western countries. The risk that someone might try to get hold of his files had forced the Italian Navy to strengthen surveillance of the body of water where the sailing ship sank. Now that the recovery operations have begun, rumours of a lightning operation by the British secret services of the M16 are once again circulating.

It has yet to be confirmed whether the ship was pulled up with the safety box intact.
