Italy thrashed 2-1 by Germany in Nations League humiliation

ROME- Italy was defeated by their longtime rival, Germany, in the first leg of the Nations League quarter finals. The game ended with Germany scoring two goals and Italy only one.

Despite Germany holding possession of the ball in the first half, they were strongly challenged by a determined Italy. Italy soon took the lead in the game within the 9th minute. Nicolo Barella sent the ball into the box and Matteo Politano passed the ball back to Moise Kean. Then, the ball fell to Sandro Tonali who successfully shot the ball into the net.

During the second half Germany scored a goal, creating a tie. The new striker from Borussia Monchengladbach, Tim Kleindienst, managed to successfully score the goal for Germany.

Then, in the 77th minute Germany scored a header securing another point for the team. The German defender Joshua Kimmich took a corner kick and Leon Goretzka scored the goal.

In the final minute of the match the Italian defender, Riccardo Calafiori went off the field after an injury.

Italy’s loss signals the end of their five-match winning streak against Germany.

On Sunday, Italy will have a second chance to secure a win during their return match against Dortmund, Germany. They must win by two goals to advance to the next round. If they win by only one, the game will turn to penalty kicks. The winner will play either Denmark or Portugal in the semi-finals.
