Pope Francis is awake and following his course of treatment, he is in ‘a good mood’

VATICAN CITY - As of Monday 12:19 p.m. it was announced that while Pope Francis is awake and ‘in a good mood’ experts have weighed in stating that he is ‘still considered a patient in critical condition and he is not yet out of the danger zone.’

Giorgio Sesti, Professtor of Internal Medicine at Sapienza University, Rome, after analysing the data communicated by medical bulletins commented that the prognosis remains the same. You can't say, for example, 'we need another 10 days of treatment.’  We don't know that - we will have to wait. This is also on account of the fact that antibiotic treatments, which are aimed at the different isolated germs, need a certain amount of time to work. We need to give these drugs time. In fact, everything originated from the lung infection which, in a severe form, could damage the other organs.”

While the pontiff remained in a precarious state, updates were communicated from the Vatican and well-wishers across the world and Italy through-out the day.

At 11:39 a.m. Vatican sources stated that Francis was not in pain.

At 11:35 a.m. It was stated that he would also to be included in Monday night’s prayer at 9:00 p.m. led by Cardinal Pietro Parolin in Saint Peter’s Square.

At 11:24 a.m. it was announced that the pope has been ‘able to get up, eat normally and is in a good mood as he follows his course of treatment.’

At 11:01 a.m. Wishes for good health even arrived from, where Imam Yahya Pallavicini is on a pilgrimage. In one of the most sacred places for all Muslims, in front of the temple of the Kaaba and during the invocations that thousands of pilgrims perform, Pallavicini wanted to convey his good health wishes and prayers to the pontiff saying, “I immediately think of him as a champion of dialogue on brotherhood and friendship with Muslims.” This was during a break between the rites of the pilgrimage right in front of the ‘Abraham station’, a shrine containing the relic of his footprints.

“In this place here in Mecca as Italian Muslims we also honour the Prophet Abraham, patriarch of the cult of the one God, in whose Name we practice brotherhood between Christians and Muslims”. “Then best wishes for Peace and health to Pope Francis who in the year of the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate continues in the wake of the dialogue opened by Saint John Paul II in Assisi in 1986,” concluded the Imam.

At 11:00 a.m. The Mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore stated that “the entire city of Bologna is rallying around Pope Francis and the Christian community. These are hours of concern for the health of the Holy Father to whom we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery. We need his voice and the hope that he has transmitted to us with strength and passion over these past years. Both the thoughts and the prayers of the people of Bologna are with him”

At 10:17 a.m. The Bishop of Prato invited parishes to pray for the health of Francis.

The well-wishes for Francis continue to pour in as people think of him not just as the Pope but also someone who strove to make lasting change in the world.
