The rebirth of Cosa Nostra, released bosses reconsolidating their power

ROME – Despite being in allegedly ‘high security’ prison wings, some of the most dangerous mafia bosses continue to manage their affairs from inside the prison, according to a new investigation by public prosecutors.

This is thanks to the telephones that they were given by relatives and who-knows-else, who were able to smuggle them past inspection.

“Nowadays the difference between being in prison or outside of prison is minimal.

The investigations that had brought these men under arrest are demonstrative of the fact that Cosa Nostra is alive and amongst us,” explained prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia.

The operations of Cosa Nostra stretch all over the country.

The national anti-mafia prosecutor, Giovanni Melillo, added that “from this investigation too comes from the extreme weakness of the penitentiary circuit which ought to contain the dangerousness of the mafiosi, who are not in solitary confinement [let alone those who are].”

The men are aware that they are spied on and use encrypted smartphones to protect their various systems of communications.

The meetings monitored by investigators revealed summit 3.0 of the new commission of Cosa Nostra.

The originally tried to regroup in 2008 and then 2018 calling for the first meeting since the death of Totò Riina, which led to a vast number of arrests.

The nearly crippled mafia, has found some recent strength above all in the sale of drugs, opening a communication channel with the calabrese wholesalers.

Both detained and free mafia bosses have signed a pact, organising the trafficking and sales of cocaine and heroine.

The mafia bosses believed that they had circumvented the obstacle of interception by beating those who disobeyed but those who had committed these ‘errors’ went on to the names of who were in charge.
