Vatican clarifies Pope's bruise is from domestic accident

A bruise and plaster are visible on the right hand side of the Pope's chin

VATICAN CITY - A spokesperson for the Vatican has said that the bruise on Pope Francis' chin, which was visible in Sunday's ceremony, is the result of a domestic accident with his nightstand.

Matteo Bruni told the press that the pontiff bashed his chin on a cabinet prior to Sunday's ceremony, which saw the appointment of 21 new cardinals, resulting in a significant bruise and plaster.

Francis is one of the oldest pope's in history, and will celebrate his 88th birthday on Dec. 17.
