Nun among three arrested for mafia related crimes

 ROME - Sister Anna Donelli has been placed under house arrest for her alleged association with the ‘Ndrangheta mafia, Il Fatto Quotidiano have reported. In addition to the nun, former city councelor of Brescia, Giovanni Acri, as well as Mauro Galeazzi, a former member of the Lega a Castel Mella, have been arrested.

 Sister Anna is accused of external collusion. According to the police, she took care of “guaranteeing the [mafia] connection with prison detainees … taking advantage of the spiritual assignment that allowed her to have free access to prison facilities.”

 Giovanni Acri is also accused of external collusion according to Il Fatto Quotidiano. As a doctor, it has been alleged that Acri helped “members” of the mafia. On one particular occasion, he is accused of helping a friend who had suffered some injuries during a robbery, and therefore was at that time a fugitive.

 There are also some very major accusations which have been made against Galeazzi, who was arrested in 2011 for bribery but was later acquitted. Galeazzi has been accused of speaking to Stefano Terzo Tripodi, a candidate for mayor, during the municipal elections of Castel Mella in Oct. 2021. It has been alleged that Galeazzi “promised to provide votes in exchange for obtaining public contracts.” Galeazzi has been arrested for political-mafia electoral exchange. Investigators have also seized over 1.8 million euros worths of good and carried out various searches.
