Atalanta stay hot on Napoli’s heels after victory against Roma

Atalanta celebrate their first goal against Roma

ROME - Atalanta have narrowed Napoli’s lead at the top of Serie A back to only one point after beating Roma 2-0. Atalanta remain the most in-form team at the moment, winning all of their last five games, including thrashing Napoli.

In the first half of the match the two teams went blow for blow, but both failed to hit the target and put their side infront. The game had to wait until the 69th minute for its first goal, when Atalanta’s Marten de Roon’s shot on goal took a massive deflection, and to the woes of Roma the ball found itself hitting the post and going in, with nothing Roma’s goalkeeper could do.

Atalanta then put the tie to bed in the 89th minute. Nicolò Zaniolo’s header from a corner looped its way into the right-hand side netting, sealing the match for Atalanta and reinstating their position in Serie A only one point behind leaders Napoli.

Atalanta will be very happy that they have managed to keep up their run of form against tough opposition Roma, and will hoping to see the same result against another tricky opponent in AC Milan.  In a season which is proving to be very hotly contested every point will count, so Atalanta will need to continue this excellent form if they want to be crowned champions.
