Sinner wins in Turin
ROME - Italian Jannick Sinner has won yet another tennis championish, this time the ATP finals in Turin. Sinner met American rising talent Taylor Fritz in the final, comprehensively winning 6-4, 6-4.
At the start of the first set the two competitors went blow for blow, refusing to give up any space between them to make it 3-3. However, it was at this point when things started to move in Sinner’s favour, breaking Fritz thanks to some fantastic backhands, and then taking the set 6-4.
The second set had a similar feel about it. The two players remained in deadlock at 2-2, but the momentum shifted when Sinner again was able to break the serve of Fritz, holding this break advantage until the end of the set. The Italian crowd erupted as Sinner won the title in Turin.
In his victory speech Sinner had some words of thanks for his team, and reflected on his very successful season:
“I would like to thank my team and all the people who support me. We have done some incredible work, and we will never stop. It has been an incredible season, and this it the perfect place to finish it. I am very happy that the Finals are being played in Italy for another five years. Compared to last year (he lost in the final to Djokovic), this year the emotion is different. And last but not least, the crowd. Thank you sincerely, we hope to see you again next year. This victory truly means the world to me, it is a special event, playing in front of this crowd is incredible.”
