Man previously thought dead arrested in post office for impersonating a priest

ROME – A 61 year-old man who faked his death has been arrested after requesting a loan from a post office disguised as a priest, Rome’s police reports.

The unnamed man was dressed in a tussock and used a fake ID stolen from a Vatican prelate to request the money. After workers flagged their suspicions, the postal police forces realised that the man had been arrested multiple times before, but had cleared himself of trial by forging a death certificate and sending it into the Public Prosecution office.

He was in the company of another man, 40, who also has a history with the police forces. On another occasion, he had been under investigation for impersonating a Carabinieri officer, using a fake badge and forged passport.

Whilst the 40 year-old is being investigated for complicity in the crime, the impersonator in question has been put under house arrest with an electronic bracelet.
