Pope Francis calls for peace on All Saint's Day

VATICAN - In his Angelus address on All Saints' Day 2024, Pope Francis urged the faithful to be “builders of peace” like the saints, reminding them that true peace is not simply the absence of conflict or the convenience of tranquillity, but a deeper commitment to justice, mercy, and self-giving love. He noted that authentic peace requires cultivating justice through small, daily acts of kindness and by maintaining a "disarmed heart" free of hostility and bitterness, even in the face of provocation.

Reflecting on current global crises, the pontiff called for prayers for peace in areas ravaged by war, including Ukraine, Israel, Palestine, and Sudan. He stressed that peace is never achieved through violence, conquest, or the imposition of power but through the grace of God, who empowers us to bring healing and unity into our divided world.

Invoking the Virgin Mary, the pontiff concluded by asking for her intercession to inspire courage in each of us to become peacemakers, living in solidarity with those suffering from the effects of war and injustice. This appeal underscores the pontiff’s continued message that peace is both a divine gift and a human responsibility, urging believers to embody the values of compassion, sacrifice, and active love in their daily lives.
